Al, the oldest of the Ringling brothers, was in charge of hiring and supervising the circus performers. As ringmaster for many years, he was in front of all the circus audiences, announcing the acts and making sure everything ran according to schedule. He was in charge of the twice-a-day performances held in the big top. Al was a perfectionist, which meant he wanted everything to go just the way he wanted, perfectly!
